Special Circumstances

We understand that from time to time, candidates may have special requirements or require reasonable adjustments in order that they can sit their Test of Competence examination. We will do everything possible to support these requirements, but you must inform us in advance.

Reasonable Adjustments/Special Requirements

Should you have any special requirements, whether it be a medical condition or learning need that needs to be taken into consideration on the day of your Test of Competence, please let the Northumbria NMC Competence Test Centre administration team know at least 7 working days in advance of your OSCE by email on CTCGeneralEnquiries@northumbria.ac.uk.

You will need to fill out the form ‘special requirements and support plan’ below, provide medical evidence such as a letter from your GP, or occupational health report, which mentions the recommended adjustments that need to be made on the day of your Test of Competence.

New or Expectant Mothers

If you are a new or expectant mother, please let the Northumbria NMC Competence Test Centre administration team know as soon as possible and at least seven working days in advance of your exmination, by completing the form ‘New/Expectant mothers’ below, and submitting medical evidence of the pregnancy by email to CTCGeneralEnquiries@northumbria.ac.uk.

Mitigating Circumstances

If you are unable to attend, because you are ill, or if you have a personal issue that prevents you from engaging with the Test of Competence, you should complete and submit the form below to CTCGeneralEnquiries@northumbria.ac.uk.

Candidates should make every effort to cancel their Test of Competence a minimum of 48 hours before the exam is booked (if the exam is on a Monday cancellation should occur on the Thursday before). Refunds will not be given routinely if Test of Competence are cancelled at short notice. For more information please download and read the form.
