What is the Clinic?
Northumbria University’s new Student-led Physiotherapy clinic aims to offer Undergraduate and Master’s level students an enriching learning experience of every aspect of clinic management; from managing a patient diary to hands-on physiotherapy treatment. The clinic will provide some of their mandated clinical practice hours required for qualification by offering six-week placement blocks from September to May.
All students will be supervised by a qualified Chartered Physiotherapist while working in the clinic
Clinic Closure
The NU Physiotherapy Clinic is open during physiotherapy student placements. TThe clinic will normally be open from February- May and November- December. If you would like to attend the clinic during these times please submit a request form and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. If you miss the new patient intake window will be be in contact to advise you of next steps.
Other options for accessing physiotherapy care during clinic closed periods include self-referring to the Tyneside Integrated Musculoskeletal Service or if work related you can contact your line manager to go via the occupational health route For urgent enquiries please contact the NHS at 111 or your GP. Please note that we will not be processing any new enquiries until reopening.

Things that we can help with
The Northumbria Physiotherapy Clinic can offer treatment and advice for a wide range of musculoskeletal issues for example:
- Back pain
- acute injury of the joints
- Long term conditions like osteoarthritis
- Posture
- Post-lockdown return to activity
The Clinic can not treat any conditions that are part of a legal or insurance claim, such as whiplash.
To ensure that the students are able to help with your condition, all patients will be screened by the Chartered Physiotherapist before being invited to attend the clinic in person.
The clinic is an inclusive space and everyone is welcome.
Opening Times
Appointment slots will typically last for 45 minutes for standard appointments and 90 minutes for double appointments. A rapid lunchtimes clinic will be offered on Wednesday when Third-year Undergraduates and Second Year Masters students are on placement.
Monday: 1230-1600
Tuesday: 0900-1600
Wednesday: 0900-1330
Thursday 0900-1600

Clinic Closure
As of the 18th of May, the clinic will be closed and we will not be accepting or seeing any patients. If you need help during this time, you can either self-refer into Tyneside Integrated Musculoskeletal Service or if work related you can contact your line manager to go via the occupational health route. The clinic will be reopening alongside the new semester in September 2023. For urgent enquiries please contact the NHS at 111 or your GP. Please note that we will not be processing any new enquiries until reopening.
