Projects
4BIM
4BIM is a £1.2 million project part-funded by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB). The project aims to provide capabilities that will help the construction sector meet the UK Government’s target for all public sector construction projects to be utilising collaborative BIM by 2016 (Level 2 on the Bew-Richards BIM maturity index).
4BIM is a Building Information Modelling (BIM) collaboration platform that uses Cloud Technology to deliver a range of BIM Services, in order to facilitate collaborative working between different project teams using open-standard data: IFC files. More information, including details of the project partners can be found at: http://www.4bim.org/en-gb/theproject.aspx
The Interoperable Carbon Information Model
iCIM, the Interoperable Carbon Information Model, is a new industry project with the aim of creating an everyday design tool to facilitate carbon assessment. The expert academic and industry project team, led by AEC3 includes the University of Northumbria, BSRIA, Faithful and Gould, RIBA Enterprises, Autodesk, and the University of Bath. The iCIM project is part-funded by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB). More information, including details of the technology behind the project can be found at: http://www.openbim.org/case-studies/interoperable-carbon-information-modelling
Spatially Enhanced Email
With the introduction and continuous growth of Building Information Modelling, information exchange in the design and construction processes of project procurement teams will be affected. BIM has the potential to drive new communication methods in which E-mail will no longer be the preferred mechanism.
BIM Campus
BIM Campus examines the process of retrospectively creating Building Information Models for the purpose of facilities management. In collaboration with the Northumbria University Estates department, 32 campus buildings have been modelled to varying degrees of detail, from simple 3D spatial relationships through to comprehensive models detailing elements such as electricity points and fire extinguishers.
