Regional BIM Hub Initiative

by BIM Academy on 14 September 2012

BIM Academy has been invited to take an active role in the UK Government’s BIM strategy including the Regional BIM hub initiative which is officially launched on 25 September 2012 in Newcastle.

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) is establishing BIM Regional Hubs in partnership with the Governments’ BIM Task Group.  11 regional hubs will be launched to raise awareness and the benefits of BIM to the industry as a whole and facilitate the early adoption of BIM processes and working methods throughout the UK’s construction industry.

Regional BIM champions will be identified in each region as the conduit for a unified and co-ordinated package of information which will allow dissemination of the programme at a local level.  Through engaging with the industry at grass roots they will also provide valuable feedback to the government’s BIM team.

The objectives of the Regional BIM Hubs are to:

  • Encourage the sharing of BIM knowledge and best practice within the regional networks.
  • Interface with the government’s BIM team to raise awareness of the BIM programme and its requirements within each region.
  • Act as a conduit for relevant information on the BIM programme to ensure a consistent and clear message is disseminated.
  • Enable regional engagement in national discussions.
  • Facilitate regional collaborative activity to support the development of the industry’s BIM capabilities.
  • Provide linkage with the government BIM Task Group and the CIC BIM Forum.
  • Provide valuable feedback to the government team.

BIM Academy will be presenting and exhibiting at the launch event, you can register here.

    1. A very rosy picture, ineded, but one in which some will hear some darkness in the statement All WILL participate. Also, I would consider circulating this, but doubt that I have convincing answers for a number of the questions the piece raises, including: How? (adding new elements easily), Where (the standardized object library), and What (free open standard by which all our tools can contribute to the BIM). By the way, I am as aware of buildingSMART, IFC, IFD, etc. both their successes and their shortcomings as anyone who is not directly involved with their development.
